THE HONEST VERSION (read this part)
We're literally writing books about why surveillance capitalism is the slow strangulation of human freedom. So it'd be pretty rich if we harvested you. We built this place to collect as little of you as humanly possible — and to be straight with you about the parts we can't fully control.
What we collect:
- Name and email (so we can send you the thing you bought and help if it breaks)
- Payment info (handled entirely by Shopify/Stripe — we never see your card)
- Browsing and device data (the aggregate kind — how people move through the site)
What we will never do:
- Sell your personal data. Not for cash, not for any price.
- Hand your email to a third party to spam you.
The part we won't pretend about: to reach people, we use the same advertising and analytics tools everyone else does — pixels, analytics, the works. And the store runs on Shopify, whose machinery does tracking we couldn't fully switch off even when we tried (spoiler: the off-switch is a hostage negotiation). Rather than bury any of that in legal language, we wrote a whole page explaining exactly what's watching you, who owns it, why we use it anyway, and how to protect yourself — even from us.
→ Read The Machine for the full, plain-language breakdown.
Your rights: Ask for your data, tell us to delete it, correct it, or unsubscribe from the Signal — anytime, no guilt trip, no dark-pattern nonsense. Reach us at thedesk@50shits.com.
THE FORMAL VERSION (for the regulators and the genuinely curious)
Personal information we collect: contact details (name, addresses, phone, email); financial/payment information (processed by Shopify/Stripe — we do not store card numbers); account information; transaction information (items viewed, carted, purchased, returned); communications you send us; device information (browser, network, IP, identifiers); usage information (how you interact with the site); and advertising/analytics identifiers and inferences collected via cookies, pixels, and tags by us and our partners (e.g. Meta, TikTok, Google).
Sources: directly from you; automatically through the site via cookies and similar technologies; from our service providers; and from partners/third parties.
How we use it: to provide and improve the Services (process payments, fulfill orders, manage your account, support you); for marketing and promotional communications; for security and fraud prevention; to communicate with you; and to comply with applicable law.
How we disclose it: with Shopify and service providers who operate the store on our behalf (payment processing, analytics, cloud storage, fulfillment); with advertising and analytics partners — including Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, and Google — through tracking technologies such as pixels, tags, the Google Analytics (GA4) framework, and server-side conversions APIs, which may share information about your activity on our site for measurement and targeted advertising; in connection with Shopify's cross-merchant advertising features (Shopify Network Intelligence / Audiences); where you consent or direct us to; within our corporate group; and as required by law or in connection with a business transaction. (See The Machine for the plain-language breakdown of every one of these, and your right in some regions to direct us not to share for targeted advertising.)
Tracking technologies & advertising: we and our partners use cookies, pixels, tags, and similar technologies to operate the site, measure performance, and deliver and measure advertising — including retargeting (showing you ads based on your activity here) and server-side measurement (e.g. Conversions API) that can report conversions even where browser-based tracking is blocked. You can limit much of this: see the shielding steps in The Machine, use Global Privacy Control, and adjust your browser/cookie settings. Where required, we honor recognized opt-out signals.
Relationship with Shopify: the Services are hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your use of the site to provide and improve the Services, and uses certain enhanced features that incorporate data across merchants. In those circumstances Shopify is responsible for that processing. Learn more at the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy / Shopify Privacy Portal.
Children's data: the Services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of majority in your jurisdiction. Parents/guardians may contact us to request deletion.
Security & retention: no security measures are perfect; don't send sensitive info over unsecure channels. We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Your rights (by region): depending where you live — access, delete, correct, portability, and managing communication preferences. We won't discriminate for exercising them. We may need to verify your identity; you may use an authorized agent with proof of authorization. To learn about data processed by Shopify: https://privacy.shopify.com/en.
International transfers: we may transfer, store, and process your information outside your country. For transfers out of the EEA/UK we rely on recognized mechanisms (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses) unless the destination provides an adequate level of protection.
Complaints: contact us first; depending where you live you may appeal or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes: we may update this policy; we'll post the revised version and update the "last updated" date.
