The Quiet Room

Whatever brought you here.

Maybe it was something you read. Maybe it was a diagnosis, or a phone call, or nothing you could name. Maybe it has nothing to do with us at all. It doesn't matter — the room works the same either way.

Nothing in here is trying to sell you anything. There's one link at the bottom and it goes back out.

If you want something to do with your hands, or your lungs:

Ready when you are

Box breathing. Four counts in, four held, four out, four held. Follow the dot round the square.

Whatever it is, you don't have to solve it tonight.

Hard things stay hard for a while. That's not you failing at it.

You're allowed to put it down and pick it up later. It will still be there. So will you.

Some things that sometimes help

  • The phone in another room. Not face down — another room.
  • Outside for ten minutes. Dark is fine. Raining is fine.
  • Something to eat, if it's been a while.
  • One person, about anything else.
  • Sleeping on it before deciding anything.

None of that fixes anything. It's just a way to get to tomorrow, which is usually enough.

If you're somewhere past heavy — if you're thinking about hurting yourself, or you can't see a way through — please talk to someone tonight. Not us. Someone trained, who does this properly.

Some days are just heavy. That isn't a failure of nerve and it isn't a lack of resilience. Sometimes it's a Tuesday.

That's the whole room. Stay as long as you want.
